RCSOB: Notes from 11/01 class

Rose City School of Burlesque

Hi everyone!

Here are some notes from Make-up class last night:

We covered makeup: Make-up application tools, contouring, eyebrow accentuation/creation, eye shadows, lashes and purty lips

Some highlights:

  1. Make-up application tools:
    1. It's not necessary to buy expensive tools, but having good quality brushes will help in application and longevity of tool use
    2. Tools recommended:
      1. Kabuki brush, a large soft dome shaped brush for blending
      2. Angled powder brush, used for highlighting powders and blushes
      3. Thin Angle brush, used for cutting lines when applying eye shadows (and drawing eyebrows!)
      4. Domed shadow brushes, three sizes (S,M,L) for varying eye shadow coverage
  2. Contouring:
    1. Use a light foundation or highlighting powder to accentuate your features, remembering that light brings surfaces forward, while darker color recess them
    2. Using a dark(er) foundation/powder, you can de-emphasize your under cheekbones, temples, hairline or any other area you wish to draw attention away from
  3. Eyebrows:
    1. Using a pencil or brush body, find the natural lines that make up your brow, then draw over them to accentuate (or cover them with foundation, powder and glitter and make all new brows)
  4. Eyeshadows:
    1. Depending on your look/style, you will probably want to avoid dark in your eyelid crease – use areas of light and dark to accentuate and open your eyes
  5. Lashes:
    1. Use LashGrip™ when adhering full lashes to your eye, it stays and is specifically formulated for false eyelashes
    2. Lashes have shorter hairs on the edge that goes closest to your nose, they do come in left and right
    3. Remove the lash from the plastic, and draw a thin bead of glue on the lash edge with a tiny bit extra on each end's tip
    4. Wait 30-45 seconds to allow glue to become tacky
    5. Starting on the outside edge, match with your outermost natural lash (or near the edge of your eyelid)
    6. Work your way around to the inside of your eyelash
    7. The false eyelash will be just above your lash
  6. Lips
    1. Using a foundation/colorstick, you can highlight above your upper lip and then darken a bit under your lower lip to help make your lips appear fuller
    2. An easy way to apply longlasting lip color is to use a dark lip liner and a bright gloss
    3. Glitterlips:  Using gloss all over your lips then add fine, round glitters using the tip of fingers
